Jennifer Sammakia received her doctorate in chemistry at
University of Wales Bangor, U.K. As a post-doctoral research scientist at St.
Andrews University, U.K., she investigated design and synthesis of fluorescent
semiconductor nanomaterials for forensic applications, focusing on
characterization techniques such as UV/Vis Spectroscopy, fluorimetry and confocal
microscopy. Her work as a research scientist at Syracuse and Binghamton universities
concentrated on developing nanomaterials (semiconductors, noble metal alloys)
for biomimicry and light-trapping applications. Sammakia has extensive experience
in design, synthesis and characterization of organic, inorganic and polymer
nanomaterials and characterization using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR)
spectroscopy, Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) in conjunction with Energy
Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS), High-Resolution TEM (HRTEM), Scanning
Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). She joined the
Analytical and Diagnostics Laboratory in 2018.Jenny Sammakia
