Andrea Kastner is a Canadian painter whose work focuses on the overlooked corners of urban spaces and the sacred nature of rejected things. Her work deals with a sense of dislocation within the urban landscape and an unsettled vision of constructed space. Kastner鈥檚 interest in our material waste has taken her to recent residencies at municipal landfill sites through the Haliburton School of Art and Design (2018) and the Klondike Institute of Arts and Culture (2019). She has also been an artist in residence at the Vermont Studio Centre, the Banff Centre for the Arts and the University of Windsor. Her work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions across Canada,the USA, and abroad including the Governor鈥檚 Island Art Fair in New York,Art Gallery of Windsor Triennial of Contemporary Art (Windsor, Ontario), the Esker Foundation (Calgary, Alberta) and the Vorres Museum in Athens, Greece. Kastner has been awarded grants by the Elizabeth Greenshield Foundation, The Ontario Arts Council, the British Columbia Arts Council, as well as being a finalist for Canada鈥檚 top award for emerging painters, the RBC Painting Competition, in 2012.
