Bridal Beauty Checklist

Spring has sprung! The grass is greener, the birds are chirping, and off in the distance we hear wedding bells chiming! Spring is a very popular time for brides to say “I do” to a lifetime of love and happiness with their beaus, so we’d love to  take a moment and help our beautiful brides-to-be to feel as confident as possible on their big day.

Tip #1: Get Your Glow On

sobronzeSo many brides believe that being bronzed for their wedding day is important, but neglect to take the proper steps to ensuring even color. We all know that baking in the sun can cause premature aging of the skin and can also cause sun spots, sunburns, and peeling–all of which you don’t want to deal with on wedding day. Spray tans are becoming more and more popular. Some brides even choose to forego all glowy options and stay their natural color. If you do decide to get glowy, I recommend trying a self tanner weeks before the big day. That way, you can adjust and perfect to get the color just right! You’ll also have enough time to see how your skin takes to the color. Dry, thicker-skinned areas (usually your elbows, knees, ankles, etc) soak up the color more readily, and therefore usually need less product, whereas the face may need extra product if you wash twice daily. Everyone is different, so starting to experiment at least a few weeks before the big day ensures you’ll get it just right!

A favorite among makeup artists is a product called SoBronze. The pricepoint is less than one custom spray tan at most tanning facilities, contains multiple full-body tans per can, and can be easily customized. A lot of people use it as a face/shoulder bronzer, and others use it for all-over color.

Before you apply any tanning products, make sure the skin is prepped and primed! Shower, shave (if necessary), and exfoliate for best results. I like to use an all-natural loofah and then a pumice stone for my extra rough skin, like the soles of my feet.

Tip #2: Don’t Forget Your Crowning Glory

Brides today can wear their hair any way they choose; up, down, to the side, half up, etc. The choices are as endless as true love! You’ll want to meet with your hairstylist at least once before the big day for a trial run. Depending on your dress, hair texture and length, and wedding theme, you’ll want to ensure your hair looks perfect for the occasion and setting and also that it stays put through all your bridal hustle and bustle. Outdoor weddings can have their challenges with possible poor weather conditions, including wind and rain, and indoor weddings can have their surprises as well. Call for a consultation with our bridal director, Bonnie, and she will help you with all of your wedding day beauty concerns for you as well as your entire wedding party. At Mary Cates Salon, we have a private bridal suite and can also accomodate brides and wedding parties at the location of your choice.

Tip #3: Worry-free Makeup

http://www.dreamstime.com/royalty-free-stock-photos-long-straight-hair-beautiful-brunette-girl-isolated-white-image31283628On your wedding day, your makeup needs to not only look gorgeous, but it needs to photograph well in a number of possible lighting conditions, not smudge, and not require touch-ups on such a busy day. Our makeup artists can make this part of your day as worry-free as possible. We have artists experienced in wedding makeup and will make you picture-perfect from morning to night! Airbrush makeup is something we recommend for brides who want to stay fresh all day without looking too made up. Airbrush makeup is brilliant in that it covers as much or as little as you want, but never looks cakey amazingly! It truly looks like you were airbrushed in photos, which is great for brides. Since there are also a number of options for low-maintenance lips and picture-perfect eyes, it is best to have a trial run for your makeup as well as your hair. This way, you’ll be able to see how well the makeup holds up on your unique skin, and also how it looks in multiple lighting situations. As we know how busy our brides can be, we are happy to accomodate a schedule for you to try out both hair and makeup on the same day.

Tip #4: Prevent Face Faux Pas

facial During times of stress, a lot of women–even those who aren’t prone–will experience  breakouts. I’m one of those lucky girls! Before your big day, meet with a  licensed  esthetician to discuss any skin concerns you might be battling. Did you  know that there  are peels available that cause minimal flaking, yet still deliver a similar glowing effect as  other peels in half the time? Book a consultation now to determine your skin type and learn what a good skincare routine can do for you!  It’s absolutely one of the most important preparations you should include before your wedding.
