The VINES Urban Farm Spring Intern will assist in the day to day work required at the VINES Urban Farm built on formerly vacant lots in downtown Binghamton. Responsibilities include: General garden and orchard care, working with community members and community partner organizations, and working with other VINES staff to ensure a successful growing season. Intern will learn about seed starting, soil fertility management, crop planning, and a diversity of other agricultural techniques. The VINES Urban Farm Intern will also have to the opportunity to help other programs at VINES, including tabling and outreach at events to promote VINES programs, assisting with workdays at VINES Community Gardens, distribute flyers for events, and perform office duties as needed. Candidate should have strong written and oral communications skills, interest in understanding urban farming and food security and be an organized, detail-oriented individual capable of working independently. Intern must be available occasional evenings and weekends. Must also have reliable transportation and the ability to lift 50lb.
