Discovery Center of the Southern Tier (Non-profit)
60 Morgan Road | Binghamton, New York 13903
Chartered by the New York State Education Department in 1984, The Discovery Center of the Southern Tier is a hands-on children's museum that serves the Southern Tier of New York and Northeastern Pennsylvania. The Museum's mission is to develop the intellectual, physical and emotional well-being of the children of the Southern Tier through participatory exhibits and programs. Created for, with and by children, the Museum's 30+ interactive exhibitions spark creative thinking, foster play-based learning, and build self-esteem.
In addition to interactive exhibits, The Discovery Center operates three fully licensed preschool classrooms, a UPK program for the Binghamton City School district; a K-5 after school program; an Extended Playtime program for 3 and 4 year olds, family workshops, and STEAM-based summer day camps. All Discovery Center school programs are Standard Approved by the NYS Education Department and offered to elementary students annually either by our mobile Museum to You program or here on site. Now in its fourth decade, the Museum hosts nearly 60,000 visitors annually and employs a staff of 50+.
The Discovery Center is a community partner with the Center for Civic Engagement's impactBING CORE Program.
