Abstract

The goal of this symposium is to provide a scientific and technical forum for researchers to discuss recent progress in cutting-edge areas of catalysis, including electrocatalysis and photocatalysis, with an emphasis on sustainable energy and clean environment. With the growing demand for high-performance catalysts in a wide range of energy and environment reactions, design and preparation of catalysts at the atomic and molecular levels have been a focal point of the advanced functional materials. Recent advances in instrumentation and measurement techniques have made it possible to fully characterize the catalytic activity and structural evolution of catalysts under in-situ/operando conditions. Simultaneously, advances in multiscale modeling methods have enabled accurate simulation of multiple processes taking place in the complex catalytic reaction systems. An interdisciplinary forum to discuss these opportunities and new challenges can help establish broader links between the fundamental research into design, preparation, and characterization of catalysts and their practical applications. The topics of this symposium include, but not limited to:

  • Development of new or modified methods for preparing advanced catalysts
  • Development of new or composite catalysts for sustainable energy reactions
  • Development of new or composite catalysts for clean environment reactions
  • Tuning catalytic properties by tailoring size, shape, composition, phase, and surface structures of catalysts at nano and atomic scales
  • Development of ex-situ and in-situ/operando techniques for characterizing catalysts at atomic/molecular levels
  • Development of multiscale computation methods for modeling and predicting catalyst structures and catalytic reactions
  • Development of machine learning methods to guide the search for high-performance catalysts
  • Exploration of emerging applications of nanostructured catalysts in sustainable energy fronts, e.g., fuel cells, photovoltaic cells, etc.

The symposium will feature keynote speeches and invited talks, as well as posters.
