George Floyd Scholarship for Social Change

About the scholarship

During George Floyd鈥檚 memorial service June 4, 2020, the president at North Central University in Minneapolis announced a new scholarship in Floyd鈥檚 name and called on universities across the nation to do the same.

The endowed George Floyd Scholarship for Social Change is awarded to historically economically disadvantaged, underrepresented minorities. Black/African-American students are strongly encouraged .

The selected students receive a minimum of $5,000 per year, for up to three years. Recipients must meet the following scholarship criteria:

  • Full-time (at least 12 hours) undergraduate student in good academic standing at the time of the application. Recipients must maintain full-time status and good academic standing to continue receiving the scholarship each year.
  • Demonstrated activity and/or achievements related to social change, restorative justice or racial equality. The student will provide this information in an essay as part of the scholarship application.
  • Financial need and/or academic merit may be used as secondary criteria.
