Binghamton women鈥檚 soccer (4-6-1, 1-1-1 AE) did everything but score Sept. 30, and had to settle for a 0-0 double overtime draw with visiting Stony Brook (3-8-1, 1-1-1 AE) from the Bearcats Sports Complex. The Bearcats owned a 17-7 margin in shots and controlled play throughout the contest.

Sophomore keeper Carrie Martin was called on to make just two saves and notched her fourth solo shutout of the season. She lowered her goals against average to 0.48. Martin and her stingy back line haven鈥檛 allowed any opponent to score more than one goal this season.

鈥淚 thought we deserved better,鈥� head coach Sarah McClellan said. 鈥淚鈥檓 proud of the way we played and it鈥檚 a well-earned point ... but our players are pretty upset they had to settle for a tie. We showed great energy and played an excellent game.鈥�

Up front, the Bearcats generated numerous scoring chances, including a handful by junior forward Candice Rowland, who had a strong game off the bench. The speedy Rowland had a near-miss header from close range late in the first half. Midway through the second half, she dribbled left into the box and ripped a shot that went past the far post. Then, early in the first overtime, Rowland slipped past two defenders on the left side of the box and drilled a shot just wide of the far post again.

Junior linemate Sarah Furminger also had a few golden chances—the best of which came in the game鈥檚 opening minute. Sophomore striker Kaitlyn Martin flicked a ball through to Furminger, who raced in alone on the left. From eight yards, she blasted a ball that beat Stony Brook keeper Chelsea Morales high before caroming off the crossbar. Sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Cook struck the rebound but it went directly to Morales. Furminger then broke in alone with one minute remaining in the first overtime but pushed a right-footed shot just wide of the far post.
