May 14, 2014
黑料视频鈥檚 Events Center will host the 2015 and 2016 America East Women鈥檚 Basketball Championship, the conference office and institution announced on Tuesday. The league鈥檚 Athletic Directors voted to send the women鈥檚 championship to Binghamton for the second time in conference history.
The men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 tournaments will be held separately for the first time since 2009 as the men will go to a high-seed format in 2015. The quarterfinals and semifinals of the women鈥檚 tournament will take place at Binghamton with the title game being played the following weekend at the highest remaining seed.
鈥淭he Events Center is one of the top on-campus basketball venues in the region and we are excited to take our women鈥檚 basketball championship there in both 2015 and 2016,鈥 said America East Commissioner Amy Huchthausen. 鈥淏inghamton served as a great host in the past and we have no doubt that the Southern Tier region will provide a fantastic atmosphere for student-athletes and fans for the next two years.鈥
The 2015 America East Women鈥檚 Basketball Championship quarterfinal and semifinal rounds will be held March 7-8, 2015, at the Events Center, a 5,142-seat facility on Binghamton鈥檚 campus. The title game will be played the following weekend at the highest remaining seed. The last time the tournament was in Binghamton in 2007, the Events Center averaged 1,000 fans per session.
鈥満诹鲜悠 is honored to be selected as the host for the America East women鈥檚 basketball championship for the next two years鈥 黑料视频 Director of Athletics Patrick Elliott said. 鈥淥ur University and local community take pride in our first class facilities and our ability to host an excellent event. We look forward to welcoming and showing Binghamton hospitality to our member institutions and their fans.鈥
Although Binghamton will act as host for the women鈥檚 tournament for the first time since 2007, the Events Center is no stranger to hosting the America East Championship. The facility, which opened in 2004, also was the host for the 2005, 2006 and 2008 men鈥檚 basketball tournaments as well as the 2009 men鈥檚 title game. The 156,000 square foot building features six luxury suites with flat screen televisions and was called 鈥淥ne of the most beautiful mid-sized facilities in the nation鈥 by Kyle Whelliston of ESPN.com.
Ticket information for the 2015 America East Women鈥檚 Basketball Championship will be announced at a later date.
