Augliera named America East Pitcher of the Week
March 20, 2012
Binghamton baseball player Mike Augliera has been selected as the America East Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced March 19.
Augliera (1-2) shut down St. Joseph’s with 11 strikeouts (and no walks) in a 7-0 Binghamton win on March 17. The Hawks put together two singles in the opening frame against him, but the righthander stranded runners on second and third with a strikeout (looking) to end the inning. He then struck out the side in the second and set down the Hawks in order in the third, fourth, fifth, eighth and ninth innings, allowing only a sixth-inning single the rest of the way.
Augliera continued to mow down the Hawks into the late innings, allowing a lead-off runner in the seventh after a fielding error, only to erase him with a ground-ball double-play ball to short. Augliera retired St. Joseph’s in three groundouts in the ninth to close out the win.
In 21 innings early this spring, Augliera has struck out 20, walked just one and owns a 1.29 ERA. Opponents are hitting a measly .149 off him.
