Binghamton (3-6, 0-1 AE) ended a four-game losing skid with an 11-7 victory over MAAC opponent Canisius at the Bearcats Sports Complex on April 3. Sophomore Brandon Planck netted a career-high five goals, including four consecutive second-half goals to propel the Bearcats in their final non-conference contest of the season.

Ahead 5-4 to begin the third quarter, Binghamton allowed its third consecutive goal to Canisius and second man-up goal of the evening, tying the game up at five. Planck broke the tie on a chest-high rocket off a feed from freshman J.T. Hauck. Then with time winding down in the quarter, Planck picked up a loose ball and worked his way in front of the net, sniping a lefty shot past Canisius freshman goalkeeper Alex Govenettio with just three seconds remaining.

In the fourth, Planck wasn鈥檛 finished, as he was found streaking across the front of the goal by junior Tyler Perrelle for his fourth goal on the evening, putting the Bearcats ahead, 8-5. The sophomore attackman concluded his scoring just 40 seconds later off a touch pass from classmate Kelly Donigan. Both teams traded a pair of goals each to end the fourth and final period, leaving Binghamton victorious after three one-goal losses dating back to March 17.

鈥淲e鈥檝e talked a lot over the last few days about how we need to have a more complete game,鈥� first year head coach Scott Nelson said after the victory. 鈥淲e told them we need to take more responsibility of what happens early on and, to the guys credit, we really responded in a strong fashion.鈥�

Five other Binghamton players recorded a goal, paced by midfielders Tyler Perrelle’s and Kelly Donigan鈥檚 three points apiece. Perrelle scored a pair of goals and an assist, while the younger brother of senior face-off specialist Jeff Donigan added a goal and career-high two assists. But it was Planck whose five goals and six points were crucial in the end.

鈥淏randon鈥檚 the kind of kid where we鈥檝e seen glimpses of great play out of him,鈥� Nelson said. 鈥淗e really put a strong 60 minutes of play out there tonight. He鈥檚 a tough son of a gun who really went to the goal with a purpose tonight and he was rewarded with some great finishes.鈥�

During the first half, Perrelle got the Bearcats on the board with a remarkable and memorable tally. He dodged a pair of defenders and in the process was bumped. Falling to his knees, Perrelle lined a low shot past the goalkeeper to put the home squad ahead with over 11 minutes remaining in the first quarter. Next, it was Kelly Donigan who made a series of spins and found the back of the net, increasing the lead to two.

After a pair of goals from each team finished the first at 3-1, Canisius leading scorer Simon Giourmetakis pulled the visiting squad within one with 12:52 remaining in the half. After a Planck goal made it 4-2, sophomore Kyle Bakker finished up a shot that was deflected in front of the cage to tally his second goal of the season.

The Golden Griffs didn鈥檛 go away, though, scoring the final two goals of the half, including one of Giourmetakis鈥� team-high four goals on the evening. The Bearcats outshot Canisius 22-11 at the half and continued to keep up the pressure as they improved their home record to 3-1.

Senior Jordan Marra made nine saves to record his second win on the year.

The Bearcats will host America East opponent Stony Brook (2-7, 1-0 AE) in a game under the lights April 7, at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The Seawolves have defeated Binghamton seven straight times, including a 12-8 victory in the semifinals of the conference tournament last season.
