Van Kann wins singles title at Penn Tennis Invitational

Binghamton men鈥檚 tennis had two players earn titles at the Penn Invitational. The Bearcats brought four players to the 16-team, flighted event at the Penn Hamlin Tennis Center. The singles and doubles competition began Sept. 28, and wrapped up Sept. 30.
Sophomore Florian van Kann won all four of his matches to capture the title of the Hamlin Flight. In the final, van Kann went three sets to beat Sylvester Wee from the host Quakers, 7-5, 1-6, 6-2.
鈥淔lorian got better with each match as the tournament progressed, which is what you want to see from your guys鈥 head coach Adam Cohen said. 鈥淗opefully this will give him more confidence moving forward this fall.鈥
Junior Ruben Haggai shook off an opening-round loss to win three straight matches and seize the consolation finals in the Levy Flight. He defeated Chris Jiminez of St. Francis, 6-1, 6-0 in the final.
鈥淚 was pleased with how Ruben bounced back after suffering a tough first-round defeat,鈥 Cohen added.
