Binghamton men鈥檚 basketball (2-4) opened the second half with a 15-0 run and used its size and athleticism to pull away from visiting Marywood 76-51 on Nov. 24, in front of 3,604 at the Events Center.

Freshman guard Jordan Reed tallied game-highs of 21 points and 11 rebounds in just 23 minutes of work as Binghamton put 10 players in the scoring column and stretched a nine-point halftime lead. The Bearcats led by as many as 34 points before settling on the final 25-point margin.

鈥淲e did what we had to tonight,鈥� head coach Tommy Dempsey said. 鈥淢arywood came out with good energy and shot the ball well in the first half. We didn鈥檛 play very well in that opening half but answered the bell in the second half. They made it a game and then we responded.鈥�

Binghamton used its size advantage to compile a plus-16 margin on the glass, including 21 offensive rebounds. The Bearcats also clamped down on defense in the second half, limiting the Division III Pacers to 5-of-29 shooting.

Reed tallied 12 points with seven rebounds in 14 first-half minutes before being used sparingly in the second half. He played enough to produce his third double-double in four collegiate games. He is averaging 17.8 points and 12.0 rebounds for the season.

Senior guard Jimmy Gray scored 15 points (5 three-pointers) and added seven assists and two steals and classmate Javon Ralling chipped in a career-high 11 rebounds and six points in 20 minutes of work.

The Bearcats led 20-10 nine minutes into the contest and led by 13 before a 13-6 Marywood run pulled them to within six, 31-25, with 2:51 left in the first half. A pair of Gray three-pointers in a 43-second span pushed Binghamton鈥檚 lead back up to double-figures before a Marywood layup on the final possession of the half made it 39-30 at the break.

Gray kept up his sharpshooting to start the second half. He hit two more treys in a 2:14 span and junior guard Rayner Moquete added one of his own to key the 15-0 opening run. Binghamton kept Marywood off the scoreboard for the first 5:09 of the second half and Ralling and Reed added points during the decisive run.

When junior forward Brian Freeman made back-to-back layups in a 22-second span midway through the period, Binghamton鈥檚 lead had swelled to 34, 70-36, with 8:57 left. Both benches cleared after that and the Pacers used 10 free throws to help offset their five field goal makes in the period.
