Student-athletes achieve 3.12 GPA for fall semester

The University鈥檚 417 student-athletes produced a 3.12 grade-point average for the 2012 fall semester - the highest fall semester mark in 11 years. Additionally, the group eclipsed the 3.0 threshold for the 14th consecutive semester. It also marked the fourth time in the last six semesters that the student-athletes surpassed the 3.1 mark.

Fifteen teams had a semester GPA of 3.0 or higher, headed by the women鈥檚 tennis team (3.59), which captured the department鈥檚 Academic Cup for maintaining the highest semester GPA among the 21 teams. Also noteworthy was the women鈥檚 soccer team (3.46), which had 29 of 32 team members above a 3.0. The men鈥檚 tennis team, winners of the first three Academic Cups, led the contingent of men鈥檚 teams with a lofty 3.42 GPA.
Individually, 62 percent of Binghamton student-athletes (259 total) recorded a 3.0 or higher. Forty-five percent (188) earned a 3.3 or higher and nearly one-third of all student-athletes (134) achieved a 3.5 or higher.
Sixteen student-athletes spanning 10 different teams earned a semester GPA of 4.0.
