Women’s soccer team shut out by Boston University
October 19, 2010
Visiting Boston University (12-5, 6-0 AE) scored twice in each half and defeated Binghamton women’s soccer (4-10-1, 2-3-1 AE) 4-0 in an America East game Oct. 17 from the Bearcats Sports Complex. The game was a rematch of last year’s conference championship, which Boston also won by the identical margin.
Boston forward Lisa Kevorkian scored twice in a 12-minute span midway through the first half to stake the Terriers to a 2-0 halftime lead. Boston then tacked on two goals in the game’s final four minutes for the final margin.
“I don’t think the score shows what a good game and good battle it was today,” head coach Sarah McClellan said. “I thought we did a good job playing out of the midfield and getting some dangerous attacks but we fell a little short in our final pass and in some of our defending right in front of the box. That was the difference in the game. It was a well-played game by both teams.”
Freshman keeper Carrie Martin made six saves as Boston built an 18-8 shot advantage.
Binghamton’s best chance came with 16:55 remaining in the first half when freshman midfielder Kaitlyn Cook ripped a 25-yard shot that Boston keeper Kelly King deflected over the crossbar.
Before the game, Binghamton’s three seniors—defender Stefani Knopick, defender Leora Kenney and goalkeeper Erin Iman—were honored for their career achievements. The ceremony was an emotional one due to the season-ending injuries Kenney and Iman suffered previously. Kenney and Iman were inserted into the starting lineup one last time before being injury-subbed after the opening whistle in a sportsmanlike gesture by both teams.
