Junior shortstop Caytlin Friis homered twice and drove in a team-high three runs, powering Binghamton (9-10) to a sweep over St. Bonaventure (3-20) in a non-conference softball doubleheader on April 1 at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The Bearcats took the opener, 4-2, before coming from behind to win the finale, 6-5.

Friis hit both of her home runs in the second game, marking the first time a Binghamton player has turned in a two-homer game since current senior second baseman Jessica Bump against Detroit on March 15, 2013. Bump, meanwhile, finished the day against the Bonnies 4-for-6, with a double and a triple.

With the Bearcats down 4-0 in the bottom of the third inning of the second game, Friis led off the frame with home run over the left field fence. It ignited a three-run rally in which freshman outfielder Bridget Hunt scored on a throwing error and Bump scored on a sacrifice fly.

St. Bonaventure answered with a run in the top of the fourth inning as Desiree Gonzales singled home her second run of the game. In the bottom of the frame, however, Bump doubled home Hunt to trim the deficit to 5-4. She tied the game one batter later on a fielding error.

Friis came through again in the bottom of the sixth inning, leading off with another home run to left field. The Bonnies then went down in order in the seventh inning.

Freshman pitcher Annika Wiesinger improved to 1-5 while Carly Bilack fell to 0-3.

Friis also started the scoring in the first game, as her sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second inning put Binghamton up 1-0. Scoring on the play was freshman third baseman Crysti Eichner.

Eichner made it 2-0 when she led off the bottom of the fifth inning with her first career home run. Hunt tripled two batters later and was immediately singled home by Bump.

Sophomore first baseman Lisa Cadogan belted a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning, putting the Bearcats up 4-0.

The Bonnies avoided the shutout when Emily Belfield drilled a two-run home run with one out in the top of the seventh inning. Senior pitcher Demi Laney, however, was able to retire the final two batters.

Laney is now 8-4, while Kristen Hickling鈥檚 record drops to 3-8.

鈥淚 thought we got off to a slow start but our bats started to come around with the more at-bats we had,鈥� head coach Michelle Burrell said. 鈥淲e showed good composure after getting behind in game two and trusted that our offense would come around.鈥�

Hunt, who scored a team-high three runs, went 2-for-5 during the doubleheader. So, too, did sophomore catcher Taylor Chaffee.
