Grammy-winning guitarist Pat Metheny will bring his 鈥淥rchestrion Tour鈥 to the Anderson Center at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19.
The Orchestrion is an ensemble of 40 mechanical instruments integrating conventional acoustic sounds with robotic technology controlled entirely by Metheny. His idea for the Orchestrion grew out of his childhood fascination with a turn-of-the-century player piano owned by his grandparents.
The Orchestrion merges an idea from the late 19th and early 20th centuries with the technologies of today to create a new, open-ended platform for musical composition, improvisation and performance.
Metheny, who has won 17 Grammys and earned several gold records, has taught at the University of Miami and the Berklee College of Music. He averages between 120-140 shows a year.

The National Dance Company of the Philippines, 8 p.m., Nov. 17: Based on the ancient tradition of Bayanihan (working together for the common good), the company provides a glimpse into the indigenous dance and music traditions of the Philippines.
Opole, Philharmonic of Poland, will make its first transcontinental tour of the United States and will stop in Binghamton at 8 p.m. Feb. 15. The Opole was the only Polish orchestra picked to play at the 2000 gala concert in Rome marking the 80th birthday of Pope John Paul II.
The fire, passion and seduction of Tango Buenos Aires arrives at the Anderson Center at 8 p.m. March 11. The company made its first appearance in the United States in 1986 and has since toured throughout the U.S., Mexico and Puerto Rico.
The Russian Classical Ballet Theatre will present Tchaikovsky鈥檚 Romeo and Juliet at 8 p.m. April 6. Led by artistic director Sergei Radchenko, the company鈥檚 music for the ballet is a fusion of Tchaikovsky鈥檚 Sixth Symphony and his Romeo and Juliet Overture.
