DeWitte’s goal lifts women’s soccer team to victory
August 23, 2011
Senior midfielder Mary DeWitte converted a cross from junior forward Candice Rowland in the 33rd minute and Binghamton women’s soccer made it stand up in a 1-0 win over host Delaware State on Aug. 21 from Alumni Stadium in Dover, Del. The Bearcats (1-1) outshot the Hornets (0-2), 17-0.
Rowland made a great individual effort with the ball before crossing it to the goal mouth, where DeWitte finished it. The Bearcats controlled play throughout the game but couldn’t extend their lead.
“We’re glad to get a win under our belt,” head coach Sarah McClellan said. “I thought Taylor (Kucharski) did a great job today. She covered a lot of ground in the midfield. It’s always nice to get a shutout and we feel positive and excited to continue to improve and build as we head into our two games next weekend.”
Sophomore keeper Carrie Martin didn’t have to make a save in recording the shutout.
Binghamton next hosts St. Joseph’s at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at the Bearcats Sports Complex.
