August 24, 2010
Head coach Nicole Scholl and the ºÚÁÏÊÓƵ women’s basketball team will welcome three high school standouts and one transfer player to the program this fall.
Joining the Bearcats are:
Kyra Aloizos, of Ardsley, N.Y., a 6-1 post player from Archbishop Molloy High School. As a senior, she averaged 14.0 points and 11.0 rebounds while playing in one of the toughest leagues in the nation (Brooklyn/Queens CHSAA Div 1 AA). She was named a third-team all-state selection by the New York State Sportswriters’ Association (NYSSWA).
Jasbriell Swain, of Horn Lake, Miss., a 5-9 guard from Horn Lake High School. As a senior, she led her squad to the Mississippi Class 6A state championship and was named the tournament MVP. Swain was also named first-team all-state at the conclusion of the season.
Emilie Vachon, of Ottawa, Ontario, a 5-9 guard from Louis-Riel High School. As a senior, she averaged 13.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.3 steals per game. She was a two-time team MVP and was the squad’s captain for most of her high school career.
Mallory Lawes, of Elmira, a 5-5 guard who just completed her sophomore season at Loyola (Md.) University. This past year, she was named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) All-Academic Team. Lawes will sit out the 2010-11 season in accordance with NCAA rules for transfer players and will have two years of eligibility remaining.
“We have a very talented class coming in that will add to the depth of our team,” Scholl said. “They are a dynamic group and I’m looking forward to seeing what they will provide for the upcoming season.”
Also, one of the most prolific players in Binghamton women’s basketball history is returning to campus. Sarah Cartmill, a 2002 graduate who has been an assistant coach with St. Bonaventure the past four years, has been hired for a similar position at Binghamton. Cartmill was part of a staff that guided the Bonnies to an 80-48 record as well as a pair of WNIT appearances. At Binghamton, Cartmill ranks second all-time with 1,862 career points and third with 784 rebounds. She capped her career by being named the 2002 America East Player of the Year in the Bearcats’ first year at the NCAA Division I level.
