Hong Zhang, instructor of Asian and Asian American Studies, gave a keynote lecture on 鈥淐ombining the Linguistic Poetic, and Musical Beauty of Speech: A Singing Approach鈥 at the 2nd International Conference on Chinese Language Pedagogy at York University. In addition, Zhang鈥檚 students won many awards. Her CHIN 202/MUSIC 280D Singing Chinese students participated in the Global Spring Festival Gala (online), organized by the Confucius Institute Headquarters in Beijing, China. Carrie Buck placed second, Edward Brotons placed third and the class chorus won the Outstanding Chorus Award. The class was invited to visit China and to participate in cultural activities. Zhang also received an award of Outstanding Contribution in Chinese Language Education from the Chinese Language Teachers Association and Chinese Language Education and Research Center.
