John Smelcer, a Clifford D. Clark Fellow in English who received a graduate student award for research last semester, has a new novel out. Based loosely on a true story, Edge of Nowhere, is about a young man who falls overboard from a commercial fishing boat during a storm in Prince William Sound, Alaska. Presumed drowned, he must make his way homeward, island by island, surviving off the land.
