Conte鈥檚 line of research focuses on understanding the interrelationships between functional and structural brain development in infancy, with particular emphasis on face processing mechanisms. As a developmental neuroscientist, she is interested in how neural maturation and the interactions between multiple cognitive domains (e.g., visual perception, attention, emotion and language processing) define the aspects of social communication. To this end, different neuroimaging techniques are combined in a multimodal approach in which functional brain activity, measured via EEG and source analysis, is integrated with data of structural brain development from MRI sequences. The understanding of typical development trajectories would shed light on factors and mechanisms that support healthy brain development and guide the investigation of atypical neurodevelopmental trajectories.
