Earlier this week, I was sitting at a red light on my way to work when I decided my lips could use a little color. I pulled down the vanity on my car’s visor and swiped on some lipstick. I smacked my lips together and drove off. By the time I got to work, I already felt like I needed to reapply. This can’t be normal, can it? I asked Michael Simpson, my coworker who is an amazing makeup artist, what I was doing wrong. Then, I asked if he would share these tips with the rest of the world, since I’m positive I can’t be the only woman in the world who has this problem.
Why Lipstick Intimidates Us (well, some of us…)
Some of us were born with naturally beautiful, full, even-shaped lips. The rest of us need a little bit of help to achieve lip perfection. Dry, cracked lips need extra TLC and prep work before applying color. Those with thin or uneven lips may want to slightly push out the natural lip line to achieve fullness and symmetry.
Below, Michael shows us how to apply lipstick. Modeling is fellow stylist Ashleigh Parmenter.
