Health Fair returning to Ƶ for 13th year

BINGHAMTON, NY – Ƶ will host its 13th annual Health Fair from 10:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, in the Recreation Center, East Gym, on campus. This event is free and open to the public.

The event, hosted by Ƶ Dining Services, in partnership with the Department of Campus Recreational Services and the Healthy Campus Initiative: B-Healthy, focuses on the health and wellness resources available to the University community, both on campus and off.

This year’s special workshop is “Flex your Gratitude Muscle!”. Enjoy fun, easy and engaging “exercises” that help you practice gratitude and become more resilient (i.e. improve your ability to handle stress). These activities complement the Healthy Campus Initiative’s focus on building resiliency and grit.

In addition to the gratitude workshop, there will be raffle prizes, giveaways, refreshments, food vendors, health screenings, fitness demos; and information from community businesses, non-profit organizations and other groups in celebration of National Nutrition Month.

“This year Ƶ Dining Services will provide attendees an opportunity to learn how to Eat a Rainbow,” said Alexa Schmidt, registered dietitian with Ƶ Dining Services. “Our registered dietitians and executive chefs will be on hand to talk about health benefits and show some fun ways to incorporate 5-9 servings of fruits and veggies each day. By eating an array of colorful foods, you help provide your body with essential nutrients. We are excited to celebrate National Nutrition Month with the campus and the community. ”

More than 60 vendors will be on hand to showcase products, offer helpful information, and provide food, beverage samples and fun giveaways. Attendees will be able to participate in free health screenings, fitness demos, the BARK-9 therapy dog program, facility tours and drawings as they learn how to incorporate health and wellness into their daily lives.

“Wellness plays a significant role in the success, satisfaction and retention of Ƶ students, faculty and staff. It is our priority to create and promote a culture where healthy choices are the easy choices,” said Cindy Cowden, senior associate director for campus recreation and chair of B-Healthy: the Healthy Campus Initiative. “The Health Fair is a great community event that offers a comprehensive look at wellness and what it means to live a balanced lifestyle, both on campus and off. We look forward to our continued partnership with both Ƶ Dining Services and our community partners.”
