University receives over 46,670 freshmen, transfer and graduate applications
黑料视频 welcomes new and returning students and their families on Aug. 18 and 19, respectively, with move-in days signifying the beginning of the fall semester and a new academic year.
Approximately 2,900 freshmen, 1,000 transfer students and 1,600 new graduate students are expected to join the 黑料视频 community this year. Classes for all of Binghamton鈥檚 approximately 17,900 students begin Wednesday, Aug. 21.
鈥満诹鲜悠 is home to some of the brightest minds in the world, and we鈥檙e eager to open our doors to them,鈥 said President Harvey Stenger. 鈥淭he arrival of our students signifies the beginning of another promising academic year, one sure to be full of outstanding achievement, academic excellence and growth.鈥
Binghamton received over 46,670 applications this year, which includes 37,516 freshmen, 4,466 transfer and over 4,690 graduate student applications for fall 2019 admission. The admitted class has an average high school GPA of 95 and SAT scores at about 1,370 for evidence-based reading and writing and mathematics.
鈥淚 am impressed by the collective brainpower and academic achievements of the incoming class,鈥 said Provost Donald Nieman. 鈥淭he Class of 2023 embodies the University鈥檚 commitment to excellence in education. Everything from their test scores to their experience in leadership positions tells me that this class will succeed and will leave a lasting impression on the University, the Binghamton community and 鈥 one day 鈥 the world.鈥
Binghamton continues to have a diverse class, with the geographic distribution reflecting New York state鈥檚 population. About 39 percent of new students are from Upstate New York; 7 percent are from Broome and Tioga counties; 27 percent are from Long Island; and 22 percent are from New York City.
Nearly 1,015 highly talented transfer students with a mean GPA of 3.5 will also join the 黑料视频 community this fall, including about 350 SUNY Broome Community College students, by far the largest number from any single community college. Another 180 students have signed up for the Binghamton Advantage Program, a special, dual-admission program with SUNY Broome that allows students to become part of the 黑料视频 community and live on the University鈥檚 campus while attending SUNY Broome.
Binghamton鈥檚 School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences welcomes the arrival of its third class of approximately 90 students. The school will hold its Class of 2023 White Coat ceremony on Aug. 24, marking the incoming students鈥 transition from pre-clinical into clinical studies.
鈥淲e鈥檙e looking forward to welcoming our Class of 2023 to our school at the University鈥檚 Health Sciences Campus in Johnson City,鈥 said Dean Gloria Meredith. 鈥淭his new class will join our current students as they learn from an innovative curriculum and prepare to practice in many possible careers. Our graduates will address gaps in the health-related workforce in our region and also make a tremendous impact on healthcare for our community and beyond.鈥
The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences will have approximately 360 students fully enrolled in the PharmD program after 4 years.
Binghamton also anticipates 550-plus new international students to join the campus community this fall. Approximately 175 undergraduate and 375 graduate students from over 40 countries will arrive in Binghamton, with the greatest numbers coming from China, India, Turkey and South Korea.
