Students at the ������Ƶ School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences are receiving high praise from a national pharmacy organization.

The school’s Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists (SSHP) chapter has received an Outstanding Professional Development Award for the 2024-25 academic year from the (ASHP).

“I was so grateful that our chapter received this award and to be able to share this news with the current executive board,” said Cierra Girardi, president of SOPPS’ SSHP chapter and P3 student. “I am appreciative to our faculty advisors, our executive board and to Ewa, the past president, for their continued guidance and support that allows us to achieve such recognition.”

The recognition is now attached to the school’s records and is listed as an . Ewa Sulicz, the SOPPS chapter’s former president and current P4 student, was elated to learn the news.

“This is such an honor for our chapter! I am so grateful to the executive board members who have worked to bring SSHP events to the student body, and to our faculty and staff who have supported us along the way,” Sulicz said. “During the time I was president, our SSHP chapter did our best to create programming to support students both in their learning and well-being. I cannot wait to see what the chapter will do next.”

This award recognizes exceptional professional development projects that students conduct as a part of the ASHP-SSHP recognition program. The content, creativity, impact and overall impression of the school’s project are evaluated when reviewing submissions for the award.

A total of 20 SSHP chapters were recognized with this honor for the 2024-25 year.

Wesley Kufel, a clinical associate professor and faculty advisor who helped found the school’s SSHP chapter in 2018, continues to be impressed with the excellent work of the students within the SSHP organization and their commitment to health-system pharmacy.

“It is a distinguished honor for our SSHP chapter to receive this award,” Kufel said. “This is a testament to the dedication, hard work and creative ideas of our chapter’s student leaders, especially Ewa and Cierra, and all of our student chapter members.”

Rachel Klosko, a clinical assistant professor and past treasurer of the Southern Tier Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists (STSHP), shared her excitement in this achievement and looks forward to seeing what the future has in store for the school’s chapter.

“I am incredibly proud of the professional accomplishments of the students in the SSHP Chapter at the ������Ƶ School of Pharmacy,” she said. “This award highlights their dedication to continuously promote and provide professional development opportunities to prepare the next generation of health-system pharmacy leaders.”
