When a student has an accommodation for a test reader, instructors may elect to utilize the University Testing Center. Once an appointment request has been submitted and confirmed, a professor can either:
- Submit a paper or electronic copy of the exam at least two (2) business days prior to the appointment time so that a University Testing Center employee can record themselves reading the exam aloud.
- Notify the UTC at least 48 hours in advance of the exam of your intention to send a live human reader to the University Testing Center to read for your student during their scheduled appointment time. SSD and the UTC will not supply in-person human readers. Identifying, training, and scheduling the human reader, as well as any costs incurred, will be the responsibility of the instructor and/or department.
If you choose to send your exam to the UTC for recording, one of our trained graduate student proctors will access your exam and record themselves reading the questions aloud. Physical exams will be stored securely in a locked cabinet when not in use and only accessed by approved UTC staff. Exams are recorded onto a computer and transferred onto an mp3 player for student use. Audio files and mp3 players will not leave the UTC premises. After the exam has been completed, all audio files will be permanently deleted. Physical exam copies will be returned to the instructor or placed in confidential shredding, based on the instructor鈥檚 request.
