Priorities
University Communications and Marketing prioritizes work that has the potential to make the largest impact for the University. This includes projects that affect graduate and undergraduate recruitment and admissions, as well as those that raise Binghamton University’s image to a national level.

Creative Authority
To ensure consistent, cohesive design that best advances the University’s image, as well as content that adheres to University style guidelines, University Communications and Marketing retains creative authority on all projects we develop.
By submitting a project request to our department, you agree that you understand University Communications and Marketing has creative authority on the project.

Lead Time
The sooner we hear from you, the better. Sufficient time is needed for the creative process and to manage the volume of project requests we receive. Production times vary depending on the nature of the project and our workload; consider the following, general guidelines when submitting your project request.
Reprint to existing project
Example:
Small changes to text or photos in brochures, programs, forms, websites
Time Estimate: 3 weeks (15 Business days)
Minor alterations to existing projects
Example:
Brochures, advertisements, invitations, simple brochures, fliers, postcards
Time Estimate: 5 weeks (25 Business days)
Moderate/significant changes to existing projects or small new projects
Example:
View books, annual reports, magazines, new/large websites
Time Estimate: 9 weeks (45 Business days)
Medium/large new projects and other writing- and design-intensive projects
Example:

Information to Have On Hand Before Submitting Your Request
You will need to provide the following information on the request form, so be sure to have it on hand:
- The account number the project is being billed to (get any approvals you need prior to submitting the form) Note: Communications and Marketing does not process your invoices; invoices are sent to us and we record them, then forward them to you for processing
- The name of the person who is our contact for billing purposes
- Delivery instructions — where will the finished product be delivered (we need a name and a campus location)

Once You Submit Your Request
We will contact you if we have questions or need to speak with you about the request. In many cases, once we receive your request a member of our staff will contact you to discuss the project in more detail.
Be prepared to answer these questions:
- What type of project are you requesting?
- How do you plan to use the finished piece (will it be mailed, e-mailed, handed out, posted on a webpage)? If mailed or e-mailed, do you have mailing lists?
- If this project is part of a larger communications initiative, what are the other components and how will each be used?
- Who is the intended audience (alumni, students, parents, counselors, community members, arts patrons, athletics patrons, donors, etc.)?
- What do you want to communicate?
- What do you want the audience to do, think and feel after interacting with this project?
- What is your timeline?
- What is your budget?
- For printed pieces, what quantity do you need?
- Who will be our single contact person for this project?

Your text submissions must conform to the University’s editorial style. Review the University Style Guide and make necessary changes before submitting the project request and text.
