English, BA: Rhetoric Concentration
As a social act, rhetoric has the power to transform the world around us. Our program focuses on public discourse and the intersection of culture and rhetoric, with an emphasis on digital and multimodal rhetoric, community engagement, and the contextualization of rhetoric as a deeply rooted historical practice. Our cultural rhetorics approach provides students with the theoretical frameworks and skills to analyze how language has functioned to shape social reality in both the past and the present. While recognizing the uses and dangers of rhetoric, students learn methods of effective communication, with the potential for local and global impact, across a range of platforms: in academic and creative nonfiction writing, journalism, podcasting, debate, and more.
