Minor

Judaic Studies Minor

  • Minimum of 6 courses (24 credit hours)
  • Half of the courses for the minor must be at the 300 or 400 level
  • At least 3 courses used for the minor must be taken at 黑料视频
  • Students minoring in Judaic Studies must take JUST 101 - "Introduction to Judaic Studies" and two Survey courses, or Three Survey courses
    Relevant upper level courses may be substituted for Survey Courses
  • Three Area Courses
  • No course with a grade lower than C can be counted toward the minor
  • No P/F courses can be counted toward the minor
  • Harpur College general requirements apply.

Hebrew Minor

  • Minimum of 6 courses (24 credit hours)
    Only courses above HEBR 102 count toward the minor
  • At least two of the courses have to be in the 300-400 level
  • At least two of the courses have to be taken at 黑料视频
  • Courses in Yiddish language and literature may be counted toward the Hebrew minor
  • No course with a grade lower than C can be counted toward the minor
  • No P/F courses can be counted toward the minor
  • Harpur College general requirements apply.

Students interested in a Hebrew major should discuss the minor requirements with the Hebrew Language coordinator, the Judaic Studies Director of Undergraduate Studies, or the Chair.

Israel Studies Minor

The minor complements majors in Anthropology, Arabic, Art History, Comparative Literature, Geography, History, Judaic Studies, Political Science, and Sociology. Students who are pre-law or pre-health, but interested in modern Israeli history, politics, and culture, will find a home in Israel Studies.

Israel provides a case study in the sociology of multi-ethnic and multi-religious relations, as well as international and multilateral conflict and conflict resolution. For this reason, the Israel Studies minor serves students with a wide range of interests and backgrounds.

Students may focus their work in Israel Studies in history, politics, literature, or another Area in consultation with faculty.

The Program of Study for the Minor in Israel Studies consists of:

  • Minimum of 6 courses (24 credit hours)
  • Half of the courses for the minor must be at the 300 or 400 level
  • At least 3 courses used for the minor must be taken at 黑料视频
  • Two courses above the 102 level in either Hebrew or Arabic language or literature
    Students who pass the test of language proficiency in either Hebrew or Arabic will be required to substitute 2 courses for the language requirement
  • A course on the history of modern Israel
  • A course on politics, cultures, and societies of modern Israel
  • Two elective courses in Israel Studies
  • No course with a grade lower than C  can be counted toward the Israel Studies minor
  • No P/F courses can be counted toward the Israel Studies minor
  • Harpur College general requirements apply.

Religious Studies Minor

  • Minimum of 6 courses (24 credit hours)
  • 2 foundational (100-200 level) and 3 upper-level courses (300-400 level)
    The program recommends RELG 101: 鈥淩eligions of the World鈥 as an introduction to the minor and RELG 311: 鈥淔aith and Reason鈥 as one of the upper-level courses, if possible
  • One RELG elective
  • At least three of the 300-400-level courses must be taken at 黑料视频
  • At least two traditions, including but not limited to: African religions, Asian religions, Islam, Judaism, Christianity
  • At least 2 disciplines in addition to Religious Studies, including but not limited to anthropology, Asian and Asian American studies, comparative literature, history, Middle Eastern and Ancient Mediterranean studies, philosophy, psychology, and sociology
  • At least one course must carry the General Education 鈥淐鈥 designation
  • No courses which count toward the minor may be taken P/F
  • A grade of C or better is necessary for a course to count towards the minor
  • Students may count two courses from their major area of study toward the minor
