Lab Attendance Commitment

All students are expected to participate in weekly 2-hour lab meetings in addition to contributing hours outside of the weekly lab meeting. Attendance at lab meetings is mandatory.  


Credits

Lab can be taken for credit (0-4 credits) through the departments of Psychology, WGSS, or Social Work. For students registering in psychology, you should sign up for PSYC 397 and you will be taking this 鈥淧ass/Fail鈥. Students should discuss specific grading criteria with their sponsoring faculty. 


Additional Time Commitment

Students are expected to commit the following number of hours of independent group work outside of the weekly lab meeting: 

  • 0-1 credit -  2.5 hours outside of lab 
  • 2 credits - 5 hours outside of lab
  • 3 credits - 6.5 hours outside of lab 
  • 4 credits - 9.5 hours outside of lab

Lab Notebook

Students are expected to take detailed notes in an online or hardcopy notebook. Detailed notes and meticulous organization are key to successful research.


Weekly Lab Journals

Students will be asked to submit a portion of their lab notebook to Blackboard every week to monitor each individuals鈥 progress and goals. This submission should include the itemized amount of time that they spend on particular tasks each week.


Lab Training Requirement

Students are required to complete and provide the certificate for the CITI Group 2. Social and Behavioral Researchers ethics course. This training is valid for 4 years.


How to Join the Lab

Because the number of student research assistant positions in this lab are limited, those intereted in participating for the first time will need to complete the application for the Spring 2024 semester, which can be found .
