The Department of Pharmacy Practice in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences provides the clinical practice coursework and practical skills training components of the doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) curriculum. Our faculty members have specialized expertise in a variety of clinical areas. Clinician educators within the Department work collaboratively on healthcare teams and provide direct patient care in hospitals, clinics, and community settings. The department also encourages and supports pharmacy practice-related research and scholarship.
Message from the Chair:
With our expanding alumni base and a core group of talented and dedicated pharmacy practice faculty and professional staff, our students are working side-by-side with local pharmacists, physicians, medical students, nurses and other healthcare providers to advance patient care services in health systems and community pharmacies locally and regionally. Through our capstone and research track programs, our students have many opportunities to engage in meaningful clinical research with our faculty. The coursework and training provided by the department are closely aligned and coordinated with the pharmacy practice experiences structured within the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum and prepare our graduates for diverse pharmacy careers including postgraduate residency and fellowship programs.
Pharmacy practice faculty and professional staff have been recognized within the School, New York State, and nationally for teaching excellence, outstanding scholarship and professional service. Our faculty have been elected or appointed to state and national leadership positions. Our faculty have been invited to speak at national conferences and we鈥檝e collectively published over 30 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters this past year. We celebrated the successes of our pharmacy students including the highest PGY1 residency match rate in the nation in 2023. This year, we launched a new Pharmacy Technician Program which is PTCB-recognized and in the pre-accreditation phase with ASHP/ACPE. The work of our department is closely aligned with the vision of our school, 鈥淭o be recognized nationally as a leader and innovator in pharmacy education and research."
The profession of pharmacy is exciting, dynamic and rewarding. There has never been a better time to consider pharmacy as a career. Upon graduation, our students are prepared to practice at the top of their education and training to provide patient-centered care.
