It is unknown if additional burglaries were committed while the suspect was in those residence halls. In light of this incident, the University Police would like to provide the following tips to help keep you and your property safe.

  1. Always remember to shut and secure both your exterior and interior room doors, regardless of the time of day.
  2. Be aware of who is behind you while entering a building and do not allow an unknown individual to follow you in.
  3. Keep valuables out of sight; including purses and wallets, cell phones, electronics and jewelry, and never leave your valuables unattended even if it is for a short time.
  4. Leave unnecessary valuable items securely in your residence. Carry only the minimum amount of money or credit cards.
  5. Be aware of your surroundings and be alert at all times. Cell phone conversations while walking can distract from the situations developing around you. If you must talk on your cell phone while traveling, use a hands-free device so you can keep your phone secure and out of sight.
