University Police Lost and Found
The University Police Department handles most of the lost and found items turned in across campus. If you believe your lost item has been recovered, please contact us by phone, email, or visit us in person at the University Police Station. Found items can be claimed at the public service window of the University Police Department, located on the ground floor of the Couper Administration Building.
How to Retrieve Your Property
Before visiting, please call us at (607) 777-2393 or email us at police@binghamton.edu to confirm whether your lost property has been turned in and is available for pick-up. When reaching out, be sure to include your name and contact information. We will respond to messages and emails promptly.
If you receive a message from our department confirming that your item has been located, there is no need to call or email in advance. Simply visit the public service window to retrieve your property. Please remember to bring a valid form of identification with you.
Policy on Low-Value Items
Effective immediately, the University Police Lost and Found will no longer accept items valued at less than $20. This includes items such as water bottles, umbrellas, lanyards, and other low-value belongings.
Please do not drop off or forward these items to Lost and Found.
Retention Periods for Found Property
According to New York State Personal Property Law, the retention periods for found property are as follows:
Property Valued at $100 or More
- Held for at least 90 days.
Property Valued at Less than $100
- Held for a minimum of 30 days.
Perishable or hazardous Items may be disposed of immediately based on circumstances and local policies.
