President鈥檚 Fellowship for Mid-Career Faculty

The President鈥檚 Fellowship for Mid-Career Faculty is intended to support associate professors who are preparing for promotion to full professor. Grant amounts are up to $10,000. Departmental, program or school cost-sharing is encouraged.

Eligibility:

- Open to full-time faculty who have held the rank of associate professor for a minimum of six years
- A record of extensive University, disciplinary and/or community service
- Applicants should have had no Title-F leaves in the most recent six years post-tenure

Conditions:
Individuals may receive this award only once. Faculty should have a specific plan and schedule for their application to full professor within two years of the award. Course buyout(s) must be coordinated with the department or program chair. At the end of the award period, awardees must submit a brief report detailing their progress during the award period.

Application proposals must include:

- Three-page CV
- A brief narrative that describes your activities since tenure, highlighting professional and/or personal reasons for delays in advancement including but not limited to extraordinary service, investment in subject or pedagogical mastery or family/health obstacles. This narrative may also indicate your membership in an underrepresented community and/or how your research directly benefits one or more such communities. (500-1000 words)
- A specific amount requested and budget
- A timeline that outlines your department鈥檚 guidelines for promotion, your progress toward that goal and the project(s) you plan to complete within two years that will enable you to make a strong case to be promoted. Project descriptions must be brief and written to be understandable to a reviewer outside your discipline. (Maximum 500 words)
- List of other resources since tenure being sought, already awarded or agreed upon that provide course buyouts or funds to support research or publishing.
- Brief statement from the department or program chair affirming the feasibility of the timeline, departmental agreement to a course buyout and if applicable, other resources the department will provide.

Preference will be given to proposals that can be completed within the time period stated in the proposal and to faculty who have devoted extraordinary time to service, professional development and/or student advising. Further consideration will be given to faculty who have not received course buyouts or leaves, except for those related to University service, e.g., for department chairs, or undergraduate or graduate directors.

Proposals are to be submitted to Vice Provost Alistair Lees, alees@binghamton.edu, by May 2, 2025.
