Adventure Activities

Join Outdoor Pursuits staff on an outdoor adventure! No experience necessary. Any fees cover your guide, transportation and equipment.

Sign up in the Outdoor Pursuits office, EG-10 during office hours (11:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday). Email Outdoors@Binghamton.edu with any questions.

Upcoming adventures

Winter Gorge Hike

  • 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26
  • Local trails, $15 

Get out and enjoy winter! Explore a local natural area with several small frozen
waterfalls. This is an easy social hike. Pack water and snacks. Dress in non-cotton base
layers, warm socks, a hat, and mittens. Outdoor Pursuits can provide winter boots.

Intro to Cross-Country Skiing

  • 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1
  • Local, $10

Think snow! Try on a pair of cross-country skis and see if this is a winter activity for
you. We’ll help you with the basics of the kick and glide on gentle flat terrain. Dress in
non-cotton base layers and socks. Bring mittens and a hat. Meet at the Outdoor
Pursuits office downstairs in the East Gym, room 10.

Make a Date to Hike! (Salt Springs Hike)

  • 10:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15
  • Local, $15

Invite an adventurous friend and join us in exploring the fascinating landscape of a
steep-sided gorge lined with towering giant Hemlock trees in nearby Pennsylvania. We’ll explore a network of scenic trails and rock outcroppings. Expect to hike 5 miles overrolling hills. This is an easy-paced social hike. Pack water and snacks. Dress in non-cotton base layers, warm socks, a hat, and mittens. Outdoor Pursuits can provide
winter boots and microspikes.

Cross-Country Ski Day Trip

  • 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16
  • $35 with BOP skis

Give cross-country skiing a try! This is an enjoyable way to spend a day in the forest in
addition to being a great work-out. This is a trip for beginners as well as intermediate
skiers. Equipment, transportation and trail fee included, just bring a lunch, water and
snacks. Dress in non-cotton base layers. Wear synthetic socks, jacket, hat, mittens and
bring a day pack.

Red Hill Mountain Fire Tower

  • 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22
  • Claryville, NY, $25

Was adventure and challenge one of your New Year’s resolutions?! Put it on the list.
Join us for a moderate trek to the summit of Red Hill Mountain (elev. 2990') in the Catskills. Your climb will be rewarded with spectacular views. More incredible vistas await those who venture up the renovated 60’ fire tower! Bring along a small pack with lunch, snacks, and plenty of water for the day. Sturdy winter boots are required. Essential clothing for the weather is a must (non-cotton base layers, socks, hat, mittens and synthetic jacket).
