Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic

The Division of Speech and Language Pathology (SLP) opened the 黑料视频 Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic in September 2022 to provide speech and language therapy services to the community and clinical training opportunities for students.

This clinical service model provides clinical training to undergraduate and graduate students and expands access to speech and language therapy services in Broome County and the surrounding area.

Services Provided

Faculty in the Division of Speech and Language Pathology staff the programs listed below. Where indicated, services will also be available via telehealth.

  • After School Program

Many children with communication disorders require expanded speech and language services beyond their current school services or are not receiving services in school despite a diagnosed need for therapy. A speech-language pathologist provides access to individual and group therapy for children with a variety of communication disorders at the end of the traditional school day.

  • Aphasia Program

People living with aphasia, the loss of speech due to brain injury, often experience social isolation, loss of friendships, reduced social network size and limited consistent contact with others. Although research supports participation in communication groups as a factor in aphasics' long-term success, no sustained local organizations offer both group therapy and individual therapy. This program provides those.

  • Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Program

This program provides services to children and adults with complex communication needs. A speech-language pathologist who specializes in augmentative and alternative communication provides evaluations and intervention, focusing on language, literacy and social communication development.  In addition to individual therapy sessions, the program includes a parent and caregiver participation element.

The Talk With Me! AAC group course is offered for adults over age 21 who use AAC and their caregivers.

In the greater Binghamton area, there are a limited number of providers to support preschoolers with communication disorders and their families.  A speech-language pathologist provides therapy services to children of preschool age in the community, with an emphasis on early literacy development. In addition to individual speech and language therapy sessions, a certified speech-language pathologist in the Hanen Program (a family-focused program for parents of children with communication disorders) is available for parent consultation and support.
