Margaret Decker, clinical lecturer, and Patrick Leiby, videographer, from the Decker School of Nursing presented a video they created about the Decker School鈥檚 Innovative Practice Center at the 12th Annual International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare in San Diego, Calif. Jan. 27-Feb. 1. The video highlights the school鈥檚 two dedicated simulation rooms that use state-of-the-art, high-fidelity human simulators and video technology to give students a head start on clinical experiences and enhance their critical nursing skills.

Isidore Okpewho, distinguished professor of Africana Studies, was honored with an appointment to the Nigerian National Order of Merit, the highest honor conferred on scholars judged the most accomplished in their fields by a panel of peers. The award, conferred by President of Nigeria Goodluck Jonathan, notes that it is the 鈥渉ighest National Prize for Academic and Intellectual attainment.鈥 Okpewho was also declared winner of the Fonlon-Nichols Prize of the African Literature Association in 2011, for creative writing judged the most outstanding from the previous year, for his fourth novel, Call Me By My Rightful Name, a story of the African sources of African-American identity and of backgrounds to the establishment of the discipline of Black/African-American Studies in U.S. universities.

Pete Napolitano, director of auxiliary services, was recently awarded the Certified Auxiliary Services Professional (CASP) credential. The CASP is the highest professional credential in auxiliary services and follows the international ANSI accreditation standards. Fewer than one percent of all auxiliary service professionals have achieved this mark of excellence that demonstrates a high level of knowledge, ethical fitness and leadership in higher education.

黑料视频鈥檚 xTax Competition team comprised of School of Management students Theofani Baktidy, Kimberly Brower, Eric Katz, Joshua Katz and Victoria Eckenrod has been selected as one of the five national finalists in the competition that is part of the annual Extreme Games from PricewaterhouseCoopers. The team, which splits a $10,000 prize, presents its report in Washington, D.C. Jan. 26-27 to the U.S. Tax Managing Partner and other partners. The team will also be briefed on the latest developments in taxation by leading experts.

Omowunmi Sadik, professor of chemistry, was elected to the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering College of Fellows Class of 2012 for research and development of nano-bioanalytical detection platforms for environmental diagnostics and biological monitoring. The College of Fellows is comprised of the top 2 percent of medical and biological engineers in the country. A formal induction ceremony will be held in Washington, D.C. on Feb. 20.
