EOP Tutoring Guidelines
Tutoring operates as a partnership, where both the tutor and tutee contribute to the learning process. To ensure a beneficial tutoring experience, we ask tutees to adhere to the following guidelines:
- Eligibility: All tutees must be current EOP students enrolled at ºÚÁÏÊÓƵ.
- Appointment Etiquette: Tutees are expected to provide advanced notice in the event of a cancellation.
- Academic Integrity: Tutees understand that tutoring services are designed to support learning and are not a means to complete homework assignments or assessments. Tutors are strictly prohibited from assisting tutees with homework to uphold ºÚÁÏÊÓƵ and ethical standards.
- Class Attendance: Tutees acknowledge that tutoring is not a substitute for attending classes and commit to regular class attendance and participation.
- Preparation: Tutees are responsible for coming prepared to tutoring sessions with relevant materials, completed assignments, and prepared questions.
- Communication: If tutees encounter challenges during tutoring sessions, they should reach out to their EOP counselor, director, or academic coordinator for assistance.
By adhering to these guidelines, both tutors and tutees can create a supportive learning environment conducive to academic success.
Understanding CRLA Certification
Ever wondered what it means when we say our tutors are CRLA certified? Let's delve into it.
CRLA, or the College Reading and Learning Association, is an international organization dedicated to enhancing student learning through professional development and collaboration among educators. For EOP tutors, CRLA certification is not just a badge – it signifies a commitment to excellence in tutoring.
Here's how it works:
- Certification Process: EOP tutors undergo rigorous training overseen and approved by CRLA members. This training is tailored to two types of certifications: the International Tutor Training Program Certificate (ITTPC) Level 01 for course tutors, and the International Peer Educator Training Program Certification (IPTPC) Level 01 for academic skills tutors.
- Training Requirements: To earn certification, tutors participate in a comprehensive program. This includes attending a six-hour in-person training session, completing four hours of virtual modules, and accumulating at least twenty-five tutoring hours.
- Dual Certification: Some tutors opt to pursue both ITTPC and IPTPC certifications to serve as both course tutors and academic skills tutors. This dual certification requires completing the distinct training programs for each tutoring role.
- Purpose of Certification: The CRLA certification process ensures that EOP tutors receive top-notch training that meets international standards. This not only boosts confidence among faculty and students in the tutoring program but also offers tutors valuable professional development opportunities. By prioritizing CRLA certification, we uphold a commitment to providing EOP students with the highest quality tutoring support, empowering them to excel academically with confidence.
