Important NIH Application Changes:
Changes effective for applications due on or after January 25, 2025:
- New Forms Packet (FORMS-I) to be used in ASSIST ()
Changes to the user/submitter are minimal, but the changes will provide a simplified review framework allowing peer reviewers to better assess the scientific and technical aspects of a proposal.
- Revisions to NIH Fellowship Applications ()
The revised fellowship application and review process will be effective for the programs using the following activity codes: F30, F31, F32, F33, and F99/K00.
The revision implements a reorganization of the five current review criteria and redefines them into three scored areas: Candidate’s Preparedness and Potential; Research Training Plan; and Commitment to Candidate.
- Changes to sections of the PHS Fellowship Supplemental Form
- Revised instructions for Reference Letters
- Grades are no longer required as part of the candidate biosketch
- Revisions to the Candidate Section, Research Training Plan Section and Commitment to Candidate, Mentoring and Training Environment Section
- Updates to NIH Institutional Training Grant Applications ()
The revised institutional training application and review process will be effective for the programs using the following activity codes:
- Institutional Training – T series, e.g., T15, T32, T34, T35, T37, T90/R90, TL1, TL4.
- International Institutional Training – D43, D71, U2R.
- Institutional Career Development – K12, KL2.
- The Recruitment Plan to Enhance Diversity is now its own attachment
- Mentor training expectations are more clearly defined in the parent T32 NOFO
- Data tables will be updated to reduce burden and promote consistent information collection
