The Continuing Education Association of New York (CEANY) has selected Thomas Kowalik, director of Continuing Education at 黑料视频, as its Outstanding Continuing Educator of the Year for his work in the field of continuing education. He will receive the award at the annual conference awards luncheon in Saratoga Springs in November. In notifying Kowalik of the award, the Awards Committee said the caliber of Kowalik鈥檚 work has had major impact at the state, national and international levels.

Lisa Blitz, assistant professor of social work, presented the morning keynote address at the Sixth Joint Superintendent鈥檚 Day Conference on Oct. 5, in Endicott. The conference, titled Strong Community/School Partnerships = Improved Student Outcomes, was presented by the Family Violence Prevention Council. The title of her talk was 鈥淧reventing Secondary Trauma for Professionals.鈥

Sean Massey, research associate professor of women, gender and sexuality studies, was co-chair with Justin Hackett from the University of Houston Downtown, of the Division 9 (Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues) program at the American Psychological Association annual convention in Orlando in August. The program鈥檚 theme was “Research and Policymaking: Making the Most of Our Efforts.”

Denise Yull, assistant professor of human development, has been appointed to the Binghamton Human Rights Commission, whose purpose is to condemn discrimination in all forms, educate the public and pursue a policy of eliminating discrimination against people based on age, race, color, creed, religion, national origin, ancestry, disability, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, weight or height, veteran status or criminal conviction to the extent provided by law.

Campus Recreation did an amazing job fundraising for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on Sept. 30, coming in 14th out of 261 teams. The 19 team members raised $1,435, with top fundraisers Janice Bennett, Cindy Cowden and Alyson Shanon each raising $200.
