Manas Chatterji, professor of management, was an invited speaker at a meeting on 鈥淭he Armed Forces: Towards a Post-Interventionist Era鈥 held in Berlin, Germany in June. He spoke on 鈥淭he Future of Military Intervention in the Framework of a Globalized World鈥 at the meeting, which was sponsored by the German Department of Defense. In July, Chatterji was an invited speaker at an international meeting on Global Finance and Sustainability, held at Karlsruhe, Germany. The meeting was organized in cooperation with the United Nations Environmental Program, international banks and financial institutions. His presentation was titled 鈥淏usiness and Sustainability.鈥

Graduate students shine at national vocal competition

Four 黑料视频 graduate students studying voice in the Department of Music voice department participated in the National Association of Teachers of Singing Regional Vocal competition at Ithaca College Oct. 27. Emily Geller ‘14, Michael Celentano ‘14, Hana Ryu ‘14 and Robert Heepyoung Oh ‘13 all advanced to the final round. Oh placed first and Celentano placed third in their respective divisions.

Ellen Badger鈥檚 leadership to the profession was recognized with the 鈥淟ifetime Achievement Award鈥 at the NAFSA: Association of International Educators Region X Conference in November in appreciation for all she has done to develop the professions serving international education through her service at the regional and national levels of NAFSA.

Stephen Gowe and Jeffrey Horowitz are this year鈥檚 Professional Employees Council Distinguished Service Award winners and were recognized at the fall luncheon on Oct. 24. Gowe, assistant director of operations for Physical Facilities, has provided over 11 years of service to 黑料视频, participating in a wide variety of projects and job accountabilities; assisting in the planning, budgeting and management of numerous projects around campus; playing an integral role in the construction of the Memorial Courtyard and various other prominent landscaping projects. Gowe was a fundamental member of the 2006 and 2011 flood response teams. Horowitz, assistant director for Residential Life, has been with 黑料视频 and Residential Services for over 17 years. Horowitz commits himself not only to the student residents that he oversees in the Dickinson Community, but also to the staff members he supervises. He is known for being a mentor, a leader, an educator and a community member who makes it a point to dedicate his time to helping others. Within the Residential Community, he helps oversee the National Residence Hall Honorary and during his personal time, he is actively involved in the Special Olympics and local soccer leagues around the community.

Manas Chatterji, professor of management, was the keynote speaker for the International Meeting on the Economics of Peace and Security, held at American University in Cairo, Egypt in June. The title of his presentation was 鈥淧eace Economics and Peace Science - Theory, Methods and Cases.鈥 He also made a refereed presentation titled 鈥淎pplications of Management Science in Peace Marketing鈥 at the 12th Tinbergen International Meeting on the Network of European Peace Scientists held at the German Institute of Peace and Security, Berlin, Germany in June. The paper was prepared in association with two PhD students in the School of Management.

Thomas O鈥機onnor, distinguished professor of Spanish, was appointed this summer by to the Executive Committee of the SUNY Distinguished Academy. The academy鈥檚 first meeting was held in Albany on Oct. 22, to organize its by-laws and activities and involve the 444 system-wide distinguished professors in actively furthering the SUNY chancellor鈥檚 Six Big Ideas initiative for the system.
